So to continue from the last entry below, while I was on my 3 week hiatus, I played around on the laptop while in bed and did some cool stuff. I built another Linux box that was sitting around, and loaded it with a bunch of cool stuff, like Apache, MySQL, Snort, Aanvil, Ntop, IPTables, Cacti etc.etc.etc. I was just practicing up on my network security\monitoring skills. Learned allot and added those “learning’s” to my first OpenSuse box. All this stuff is pretty neat, but when I opened a couple ports on my router, i started getting hit with a ton of break ins. Luckily, I had fail2ban installed, and it just banned the shit out of everyone. Also IPtables, blocked a bunch of script kiddies from port scanning me. HAHHHHHAAAA.

But to get on with the more fun stuff. So one of the things I installed and played with was ZoneMinder. This app is one of the coolest Home security webcam systems I’ve seen, and the best thing about it – it’s free. Just a bitch to setup. Luckily I had allot of time on my hands.

So I set up the ZM app, nicely configured with mail filter alerting, 3 cams, cron jobs to set off different “setups” at different times of the day. For instance I have a mon all, detect all, and all off, setup that are fired at different times of the day. I usually get home from work around 4′ish so I have them set to turn off at 4PM.

Well this gets me to my point of this over boring and technical blog entry . Yesterday, I had to leave work a little earlier than normal, because I needed to get to the post office by 4 to mail out some very important paperwork. So I do what I have to do at the post office, and get home around 3:45.

As I get home, I am in a state of la la land from the long week, and I am just glad the week is over. I proceed into the bedroom not paying attention to any of my surroundings including all the webcams and their pretty blue lights. I do my normal undress, take everything off so that I can get on a fresh set of comfy clean clothes. It is Friday you know…

So I am nice and comfy and I sit down at my computer to do some last minute stuff for work, you know like check emails and such. Next thing i know I get an email on my Blackberry from my ZoneMinder server – “ALERT ALERT” it says. I am baffled because  Read the rest of this entry »
